SMJA proud of teachers and students

Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SMJA) recently awarded teachers and students for their outstanding results in the November 2010 BGCE 'O' Level examinations. Overall, the results for SMJA were impressive with 18 students obtaining an A* in various subjects, 17 students obtaining 9 'O's, followed by 30 students getting 8 'O's and five students getting 7 'O's.

The top three students at SMJA were Nimisha Mohandas, Siow Yi Li and Dk Nurul Munjiah binti Pg Hj Mu'izzudin. In the Mathematics Syllabus D examination, Muhammad Nabil bin Hj Ismail was in the top 10 in the world. He expressed his thanks to all teachers, for teaching and supporting him. Nabil's message to his juniors is "always remember to do the DUIT , which stands for 'Doa, Usaha, Ikhtiar and Tawakkal'". He also added, "aim for the best."

The most outstanding student at SMJA was Nimisha Mohandas who achieved 6 A* and 2B's. For Additional Mathematics, she was the top in Brunei and top ten in the world and she is the only student awarded in Brunei for Additional Mathematics in 2010, 'O' Level examinations. She expressed her thanks to all her teachers who encouraged her with special thanks to Ckg Teo Soo Bee, her Additional Mathematics teacher and Ckg Paridah binti Hj Bayong, her Mathematics D teacher. She also thanked her mother, a Mathematics teacher in SMJA, who encouraged her to do all the past papers from the last 15 years for both the Additional Mathematics and Mathematics Syllabus D courses. Nimisha's message to other students is "If you want to do it, you can do it." She acknowledges that parents, teachers and friends have a part in it but it all ends up with you. "It is your will that guides you to the right path. Just try. Try and see what you can do. Work hard and aim for the A*s." She wishes, from the bottom of her heart, the best of luck to all students and hopes all succeed with flying colours.

In a special awards ceremony, the principal of SMJA, Ckg Hjh Sipiah binti Hj Sawal congratulated the students and teachers on their excellent results saying that their dedication, commitment and hard work were a credit to them and the school. She said that they were inspirational and she hopes that others will follow in the standards they have set.
